Shia Labeouf has won the Orange Rising Star Award in 2008. The winner was announced by last year's winner, Eva Green, at the Orange British Academy Film Awards on Sunday 10 February (see picture, right).

Shia Labeouf has quickly become one of Hollywood's most sought-after actors starring in films such as Transformers, Disturbia and A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints as well as a voiceover role in the animated tale Surf's Up. He is currently in production on the fourth Indiana Jones instalement, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
The Orange Rising Star Award celebrates a young actor or actress of any nationality who has demonstrated exceptional talent and ambition and who has already begun to capture the imagination of the British public as a film star in the making.
The Orange Rising Star Award is unique as it is the only Award presented at the Orange British Academy Film Awards to be voted for by the British public. Film fans voted for their favourite Star via text message on the Orange Rising Star Award website .
Duncan Kenworthy, then Deputy Chairman of the Academy, said: "The Orange Rising Star Award is the perfect Award to be voted for by the public, as it's the British audience who create film stars by going to see their movies. This significant Award shines a very bright spotlight on the young actors and actresses who are on the cusp of movie stardom and helps in the important task of bringing on the talented next generation of acting talent."
The Orange Rising Star Award was launched at the Film Awards in 2006 and won by James McAvoy , who has since enjoyed exceptional success. In 2007 the British public voted for Eva Green as the star most likely to light up our screens.
