The Orange British Academy Film Awards in 2008 mark the eleventh year of Orange and BAFTA’s partnership. Orange CEO Tom Alexander talks about the company's ongoing involvement.
Together, Orange and BAFTA aim to celebrate the films and talent that have captured the nation's imagination and our unique initiatives, '60 Seconds of Fame' and 'The Orange Rising Star Award', now give people the chance to play a part in the UK's most prestigious Film Awards.
At Orange we believe in the future. That is why we created The Orange Rising Star Award to celebrate the talented young actors and actresses set to become our brightest new stars. As the only audience Award, it gives the film-loving public the chance to have their say.
The Orange Rising Star Award was launched at the Film Awards in 2006 and won by James McAvoy, who has since enjoyed exceptional success. In 2007, James returned to present the second Orange Rising Star Award to Eva Green, whose path to superstardom is equally assured. A special thanks to this year’s ORSA jury for their time, knowledge and commitment to selecting the short-list of rising stars: Duncan Kenworthy, Eva Green, John Madden, Jina Jay, Shamraiz Younis, Finola Dwyer, Nik Powell, Dan Storey, Jenny Borgars, Charles Gant, Alex O'Connell, Ian Nathan and David Edwards, and an extra special thanks to the public for casting their votes.
Orange is delighted to be supporting the Academy’s innovative short film initiative, ' 60 Seconds of Fame ', for the second year running. Our aim is to highlight and reward grassroots talent by setting a creative challenge that is open to anybody with a passion for film.
Not only does it encourage the general public to get involved in the filmmaking process, it also provides an international platform for the winner to be recognised and have their work showcased. Our dedicated '60 Seconds of Fame' website, orange.co.uk/bafta , is the focal point for the initiative and provides advice from industry experts, technical help and inspiration.
The glamour of BAFTA holds universal appeal so, for the second year, Orange will be broadcasting all the action live from the red carpet. Fans of film and fashion can watch exclusively on orange.co.uk , getting closer to the stars than ever before. We're also dedicated to providing our customers with the best UK cinema ticket offer through our 2 for 1 Orange Wednesdays promotion. Our customers can also access in-depth guide to film anywhere and at anytime including listings and cinema locators, film synopses, exclusive preview content, reviews, trailers and much more.
We are proud to be involved with BAFTA and the British film industry and we hope that by continuing our support, celebrating new talent and increasing accessibility to all, we're ensuring that the future of UK film remains bright.
