EA British Academy Children’s Awards

“Keep your ideas original,” was the advice given to aspiring filmmakers by Leah Cooper, 13, after she was presented with the CBBC Me and My Movie award. There speaks someone with a future. In Leah’s short film, The Prank, a wooden mannequin decides to scare a crystal ball queen… who isn’t amused. Funny, original and made on a pocket money budget, it was the triumphant winner of a competition that drew more than 500 entries from 6-14 year-olds following a year-long programme of filmmaking workshops, resources and events… and was a highlight of the ceremony at the London Hilton, hosted by Keith Chegwin.
The headline winners at the Awards, which embrace film, television, video games and online, were Charlie & Lola, which won Animation and Pre-School Animation, and the Chuckle Brothers, who were presented with the Special Award. The Entertainment award went to Hedz, Independent Production Company was won by Ragdoll, and the Drama award was picked up by The Revenge Files Of Alistair Fury.
The BAFTA Kids’ Vote got nearly 200,000 youngsters voting for their favourite websites, video games, movies and programmes, smashing the target of 100,000 and putting Hannah Montana on top of the charts.
