Review of the Year 2008/2009
Learning & Events
Insight and Inspiration
If the profile of our Awards has shifted to another level in the last few years, the transformation in our Learning & Events programme has been even more dramatic.
It started with the Strategic Review of 2005, which renewed our charitable remit and sense of purpose. In 2008, we published our first Learning & Events Strategy, which gave direction and fresh impetus to our events programme. Today, our talks, debates, industry workshops, festivals and Q&As – and our filmed webcasts of these – bring insight and inspiration to thousands of people every year.
In the last 12 months, we staged 206 BAFTA events: over 50% more than in the previous year. Our refurbished headquarters at 195 Piccadilly offer a world-class venue for many events in the capital, but we continue to branch out across the UK, and more than a third now take place outside London.
Our online broadcasting at bafta.org is on the increase too. On average, we are now posting webcasts of events at least every two weeks. A few years ago, only a lucky audience of 200 would have enjoyed our events at 195 Piccadilly.
