Anna Wintour at BAFTA 195 Piccadilly
Anna Wintour and Suzy Menkes at BAFTA 195 Piccadilly
We welcomed two fashion gurus to the venue this month, with Anna Wintour and Suzy Menkes sharing the benefit of their considerable experience with a theatre full of eager fashion students.
The event was arranged in collaboration with the British Fashion Council, and the main topic of discussion was how to stand out in the US market, providing a fascinating insight into the hard work that goes on behind the scenes in one of the world's most glamorous industries.
Caroline Rush, CEO of the British Fashion Council commented: "Anna Wintour, Editor in Chief for Vogue US and Suzy Menkes, International Vogue Editor, are fashion industry heavyweights with careers that have been instrumental in so many iconic moments in the fashion industry both past and present. Many thanks to BAFTA 195 Piccadilly for hosting the talk. The team were a joy to work with".
More events with The British Fashion Council will be announced soon.
Christmas brings new
and inspiring creations
from the 195 kitchen…
Head Chef Anton has devised an imaginative and informal culinary experience designed to be served 'sharing style', using unique and fun recipes from the 19th century and bringing them to life in a very contemporary way. This visually stunning menu will have guests talking about their dining experience for months to come.
Imagine eating your table candles, enjoying your starter from a planted garden, experiencing a slow-cooked goose served to the table as in Dickensian times and having Hansel and Gretel's Gingerbread for dessert. These are just some of the many wonderful creations Anton has dreamed up for this unique experience.
See here for the 'sharing menu' and also our traditional Christmas menu.

Christmas at BAFTA 195 Piccadilly
Edible Cinema comes to BAFTA 195 Piccadilly
Edible Cinema
Last month saw Edible Cinema make its first appearance at BAFTA 195 Piccadilly, with a screening of Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet. Treated to an edible adventure through the film, guests enjoyed a selection of themed dishes expertly constructed to correspond to the action on screen.
With four screenings taking place over the weekend, the event was a great success, and will be returning as a fixture on the 195 programme.
Paxton & Whitfield
What's new in the BAFTA 195 Piccadilly kitchen
We are pleased to announce that we are now working with iconic Jermyn Street cheesemonger, Paxton & Whitfield, who will be bringing an enviable selection of great British cheeses to the kitchen at BAFTA 195 Piccadilly.
As well as supplying our clients with artisan British cheeses, Paxton & Whitfield will also be partnering with the venue to host a series of tutored British cheese and wine events throughout the year. Graham's Summer Cocktail
Why not try this easy-to-make refreshing cocktail from Graham Lloyd Bennett, Bar Manager at BAFTA 195 Piccadilly?
Ingredients:
¼ cup fresh melon
¼ cup fresh green apple
50ml Plantation white rum
Juice of 1 lime
Fresh mint approx. 10 leaves
¾ teaspoons brown sugar
Method:
Place the fruit and mint into a mixing glass. (You will need to muddle this, so a strong vessel is necessary!) Add the sugar, the rum, and lime juice into the same mixing glass. Take a muddler or similar (a rolling pin or flat edge spoon would do), crush and mix all together. Add lots of ice and shake vigorously to mix all the flavours together and chill the drink. Using a strainer, strain into your glass and add lots of ice. Garnish with a wedge of lime. Enjoy!
A preview of our autumn edition, and dates for your diary
Due to the success last year of London Restaurant Festival's screening of Spirited Away curated by Jonathan Ross, we're delighted that the celebrated photographer, Rankin, has chosen the much-loved film Cinema Paradiso to curate on 17 October. Tickets and information will be available in the September newsletter.
In December we'll be partnering with the Royal Opera House with a live streaming of Alice's Adventures In Wonderland, a firm favourite in the Royal Ballet repertory and the perfect Christmas show. The magical designs are sure to look stunning on the cinema screen.
